Before arriving in Florence, the hub of the Italian Renaissance, we stopped in Orvieto to see the Orvieto Cathedral.  After a snack of prosciutto and melon, we boarded the coach and travelled the rest of the way to Florence.  We checked into our hotel, enjoyed a nice welcome dinner, and spent some time studying for our art exam.

On Monday, we took our art exam, focusing both on the art we had seen thus far in the travel portion as well as the pieces we would see in our remaining cities.  After a short break and music class, we walked to the market for lunch and some shopping.  We attended a concert in Orsanmichele to hear both modern pieces by a local composer and Classical piano pieces by Mozart.

We had a free morning on Tuesday, so a few of us decided to visit another museum with our art teacher.  After lunch, we toured the Uffizi Gallery with a scavenger hunt with to identify certain artistic elements we had studied in class.  We saw Michelangelo’s David on Wednesday morning, before taking a walking tour of the city that concluded at the Brancacci Chapel, and then walked back to town via the Ponte Vecchio.  We walked up to the top of the Duomo – 483 steps – where we could see a beautiful view of the city.   On Thursday, we headed out toward Belgium!
