My name is Alyssa Shapiro, and I am a rising second year at Georgia Tech. Last year I was a percussionist in the Yellow Jacket Marching Band, a Spanish translator at the Good Samaritan Hospital, and an active member of MOVE (Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experience), serving as the chair of the Senior Services committee in Spring 2012. I love music and volunteering, and in my free time I enjoy reading, running, salsa dancing (what better place than Peru to find more of this!), and baking.

This summer I will spend 6 weeks in Peru, mostly in the city of Cuzco, which is the capital of the old Incan empire. I will be taking classes on Peru’s culture and history and staying with a host family. During afternoons and weekends there are a lot of excursions to see Cuzco’s Incan temples and other wonders, like Sacsayhuaman and Moray. I’m really looking forward to the chance to immerse myself in the language and culture here.
